The Journey of Tudor Watches:
A Heritage of Attainable Excellence
In the prestigious realm of Swiss watchmaking, few brands have managed to balance quality, precision, and style quite like Tudor. As a sibling brand to the illustrious Rolex, Tudor has carved its own niche in horology. Since its inception in 1926, Tudor has built a strong reputation for producing exceptional timepieces that merge luxury with affordability, ensuring top-notch performance without breaking the bank.
Let’s explore the fascinating journey of Tudor watches, tracing its growth from being a more affordable alternative to Rolex to becoming an iconic brand in its own right.
The Vision Behind Tudor: Hans Wilsdorf’s Ambition (1920s-1930s)
Tudor was born out of the innovative thinking of Hans Wilsdorf, the mastermind behind Rolex. In 1926, Wilsdorf trademarked the name "The Tudor" with a clear objective: to create a watch brand that maintained the standards of Rolex in terms of quality and precision but came at a lower price point. This goal was achieved by combining the use of third-party movements with Rolex’s famously robust designs. Wilsdorf aimed to reach a broader audience without compromising on excellence, and Tudor was his solution.
The first Tudor watches hit the market in the 1930s, offering consumers a chance to own a Swiss-made watch at a fraction of the cost of a Rolex. These watches were quickly appreciated for their reliability, craftsmanship, and aesthetic appeal.
Post-War Growth: Rugged and Refined (1940s-1950s)
The post-World War II era brought significant changes to watchmaking, as soldiers and explorers began to depend on wristwatches for their robustness and functionality. Tudor, like other brands, responded to this shift by producing tough, durable models suitable for daily wear in challenging environments.
In 1946, Montres TUDOR S.A. was officially established to produce these high-performance watches. This move marked a key turning point in Tudor’s history, confirming its focus on creating stylish, durable timepieces that maintained an accessible price range.
The brand’s famous Oyster case, borrowed from Rolex, became a hallmark of Tudor watches, ensuring water resistance and longevity. By the early 1950s, Tudor introduced the now-iconic “Rose” logo, which symbolized the brand’s dedication to elegance and sophistication. This period was crucial in positioning Tudor as a major player in the world of sport and tool watches.

Our Reviews
Great product
Great customer service and a high quality strap. Would happily use them again.
Incredible quality and value for money.
This is the fourth or fifth time I have purchased from this company and all the leather watch straps I have received have been outstanding quality and absolutely phenomenal value for money especially considering what other watch strap companies charge.
The latest straps are specifically for my new Longines Spirit and they are nothing short of perfect and pair wonderfully with the high end piece.
